Hey Everyone,
I’ll be running the Oakland Marathon in March! I’m not only doing this for my own health and personal challenge, but I’m also helping to raise money to send students from an Oakland public middle school to Washington DC.
Donating is quick and easy on-line at :

Be sure to choose “Urban Promise Academy” in the scroll down menu and type in “DC Jereme Monteau” in the next field.

With your help, in April eleven students from Urban Promise Academy (UPA), a public middle school in Oakland’s Fruitvale District will be traveling to Washington to participate in a Close Up Foundation study tour of our nation’s capital. 90% of UPA’s students qualify for free or reduced lunch, a measure of low income. Of the 10 traveling to DC, most will be the first in their family to go to college. The Close Up Foundation is providing a $500 scholarship for each student; and each family is making a significant contribution, despite financial hardship; but to cover the remainder of the program and transportation cost, I am helping to raise the additional $500 needed for a student to participate. A donation from you, of any size, brings me closer to that goal.
Some of you may remember that I myself visited Washington DC with my high school class! It was a wonderful experience for me and I’m very excited to be able to give a young person the same opportunity today. Visiting our nation’s capital is educational, inspiring and a great way to experience a metropolitan city. I hope you will join me my effort to help others share in this experience.
Thanks for cheering me on as I train for this marathon, and thanks even more for helping me to send a student from Oakland to DC.
