i finally got my hands on brian's photos from the 2002 bishop mule days celebration. check them out for another perspective on the time we spent down on the east side.
speaking of alternate perspecives; this guy dave altman kicks around the local climbing spots, claiming a plethora of problems on the limited selection of holds on bay area rock. oh yeah, and he's strong. real strong.

i had the pages from my college site laying around so i thought i would throw them up for a laugh. there are some funny photos in there.
this was my first stab at a real homepage. hopefully my design skills have improved a little.
leaving for colorado tomorrow!
father's day is on sunday!
i just found this photographer's site. there is some great stuff there. of special interest are some killer photos
of none other than...the pollen grains. check it.
my buddy jason has updated his site. it's just like any other website, only more so. ;-)
he's also written some TCL code that let's him publish to his site without having to learn any lame mark-up languages like HTML. pretty cool, for TCL.

abrahm has updated his site with, among other things, some new features and photos. see if you can find anyone you know!
for those of you who don't know, mr. lustgarten has been accepted to and will be attending the graduate journalism program at columbia university in NYC. he'll be leaving
the bay area for one short year and he will be missed, but we know he won't be able to stay away! i mean, who can resist being able to go on an epic mountain bike ride in the morning
and spend the rest of the day pulling down on world-class sandstone in the hills of castle rock. in any case, we all wish him the best!

the photos from the sad boulders and yosemite are up!
another epic climbing trip has come and gone. this time the culprits were jason, alejandro, brian, ariel, kane, jeremiah, and myself. brian, jason and myself headed to bishop on friday (may 24th) to scope out a camp site and get an extra session in before the crew showed up.
day one saw sends of the now classic "nipple" dyno-to-mantel problem in the buttermilks, including daylight, headlamp and moonlight ascents!
day two welcomed the arrival of alejandro, ariel, kane and jeremiah. after a little chit-chat at the kava coffee house we rolled out the happy boulders for a little fun in the sun. we chased the shade under all of the overhanging problems, dispatching what we could along the way.
day three began with a stout warm-up on the classic ironman traverse at the buttermilk boulders. everyone came close to ticking it, but, alas, the pumpy traverse moves were enough to put the final dyno out of reach. arms pumping and skin burning we hiked around to explore the area's ultra-hard pieces such as the mandala, evilution and the buttermilker. after i took a good, heel crushing fall on the scary-high gaston move on "essential peabody" we decided it was time to move on.
after a stop in town to refuel on baskin robbins we journeyed out the the sad boulders, located adjacent to the happy boulders on the volcanic table lands just to the north of town. the sads offered dozens of moderate problems, from overhanging pocket-pulling to slabby friction climbing. there was a little something for everyone out there, the weather was primo and the crowds were almost non-existent. after exploring only a small section of the bluffs area we hiked around the amazing "ice caves" that sit in a small gully in the center of the area. caves, corridors, cracks and crevasses were the name of the game at the end of our day at the sads. we ended up leaving what looked to be hundreds of "next-timers" at the sads. can't wait to return! after a celebratory brew we headed to the pizza factory for chow and out to camp for slumber.
day four. up to yosemite. the inaugural trek for three or four us. after the leisurely drive across tioga pass and into the valley we settled at camp 4 were kane and jeremiah established their residence for the next week. obviously there was one thing on everyone's mind. midnight lightning. we all wanted to see this story-book problem in the flesh, or rather in the rock. located on the east face of the immense columbia boulder, smack dab in the middle of the camping area, the problem progresses up the middle and to the right on what look to be reasonable yet intimidating holds. flanked on the right by the familiar chalk drawn lightnight bolt, the problem is at the same time inviting and forbidding. some of us gave it a go. some of us just gawked in a humbled daze at what could be the epitomy of bouldering culture. it was great! kane and alejandro were getting close to the lightning bolt hold, the photos are great.
i saw chris cruz at the gym last night, limping around. i asked him, "what happened dude?" he replied in monotone with a hint of a grin, "midnight lightnight..." i took the bait and queried, "awe, did you peel of the lightnight bolt hold?" he confirmed, "well, yeah, i latched it pretty good, was all stoked and then, pow, i'm pile-driving into the deck." he said his ankled swelled to the size of small child and he was on crutches for a couple of weeks. but, of course, he's still climbing, strictly campusing, that is.
anyways, that's the short version of the story. maybe i'll elaborate in some kind of longer piece some day. enjoy the photos!
i've reorganized the news section a little bit. i split out the months onto their own pages. this page will always have the current month's news.
